*ORIGINAL POST* December 6, 2013
Anyone that knows me knows that I can't stick to a diet for more than 3/4 ths of a day. (I'm a total sugar addict) So to free myself from being a slave to food I decided to eat No Sugar and No Flour for the whole month of September, then see if it made my life easier or harder.
Well, it was super hard for the first 4 days and even though I wasn't eating flour or sugar I was eating a lot of food - snacking all the time! Then the cravings went away and I was able to easily eat healthy portion sizes. I finally felt peaceful with food - it was amazing - and I really like the foods that I'm eating. So, I decided to make it a lifestyle change -except for holidays =) So since September I've lost 15 pounds easily with hardly any exercise (approx 1-2 lbs a week). I do advocate exercise though! I'm getting back into it. Anyway, I just thought I'd share since nothing else has ever worked for me. I'm following the principles in the book:
Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar(TM) Diet by Peter H. Gott and Robin Donovan. I've been off of sugar before but never lost weight.
Cutting out all sugars AND ALL flours was the key for me.
My Typical Day:
Breakfast:
Oatmeal made with whole oats, and water w/ cinnamon, splenda and milk
Snack:
2 String Cheeses
Lunch:
2 Rice Cakes with all natural peanut butter and sliced banana (eaten open faced)
Flavored sparkling water
Snack:
3 scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa or ketchup
Dinner:
Smoothie made with:
1 c. water
1 c. plain nonfat yogurt
1 frozen banana (frozen in thirds)
1 c. frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)
1/4 c. whole oats
4 packets of splenda
2 large handfuls of raw spinach leaves
Other things I love to eat:
- Frito Lay Cheetos chips - crunchy
- Ruffles cheddar and sour cream chips
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Nachos (I have a big thing of nachos and pulled pork every Friday for dinner - yum!)
- Salads with chicken strips and cheese w/ ranch dressing (I don't use much dressing if there is a lot of cheese)
- hamburgers (and just not eat the bun)
- Diet coke - occasionally
- tacos with corn tortillas
- scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa or a little all natural ketchup (I don't worry about the sugar content in ketchup, I just try not to go overboard with it)
- freeze-dried fruit (mangoes are SO good)
- dried fruit and nuts (you can bag them up and take them with you just in case you are ever hungry)

(If you have any questions see my ORIGINAL POST below or just ask in the comments)
So now, as of September 1st, I have lost 23 lbs.!
I went off the diet for 3 days at Thanksgiving-- it took me 4 days to get back to not craving sugar.
I went off for 1 day at Christmas and it took 3 days to get back to not craving sugar.
At New Years I went off for 3 days and ate LOTS of delicious cookies - and it took me about 5 days to get back to not craving sugar.
The last day getting off sugar is the hardest and I feel like giving up, but then if I stick with it - the next day I get through the whole day and at night I remember thinking:
"Wow! Today was so easy - I didn't crave anything - this is so easy and I feel great!"
Here is a list of foods that my mom and I came up with that has been helpful:
